A great thing has happened.

The Oakhurst Boys & Girls Club is scheduled to reopen in the next few months and will once again provide a much-needed facility for our local children to go after school and during the summertime.

The club has been without a corporate sponsor for years and was recently temporarily closed because of lack of funding.

But as a result of the hard work by the club's board of directors and the generosity of the community, the directors say the club will reopen by the end of 2008.

We applaud all of the efforts to get the Boys & Girls Club reopened, from the recent Honorary Mayor campaign run by Mat Sands to local businesses giving a portion of their earnings to the cause.

We have a lot of wonderful things here in the Mountain Area, but what we lack in are good, quality facilities for our youth.

The Boys & Girls Club has the tools, the staff and the board to make a different in our local teens, and we are happy to hear it's coming back.

The issues above are discussed and chosen by the Sierra Star editorial board, made up of Betty E. Linn, publisher, and David Richards, editor.
